It’s been quiet around here…

It’s been pretty quiet around here… The reason why? I’ve been writing like the wind, just not on this blog. It was NaNoWriMo! And I have to say, I think this was the best one I’ve ever had! I’ve only won a proper NaNoWriMo once before, It was when I wrote my novel Confidence The Diary of an Invisible Girl, and to be honest, that journal though filled with tall peaks, also had some pretty low valleys. I wrote like crazy just to get to the end. As a result, I ended up with a story a really love.

Though I definitely had some “tear my hair out” moments during last month. November was a hard month for a lot of us. But overall went really well. I think that has a lot to do with the community I found here in Orlando. Magic happens when you enter a room of writers who are frantically typing on their keyboards. ❤ It motivated you to write faster, better, and not to give up. And in the event that you’re starting to lose steam, you have a support group of people who can cheer you on when you’re down and give you that extra push. I was reminded over and over again that this was not a month for editing, and that alone was enough to make my fingers fly across my keyboard. nanowrimo_2016_webbanner_winnerThe rough draft I’ve been working on has the working title of “Broom Mates” and followed a group of three teen witches who are expelled from magic school and banished to Portland OR for the summer. It was really fun seeing where the characters wanted to take me. One thing I didn’t expect? For all of them to start falling in love! With mortals? With each other? With EVERYONE?! Time, editing, and revisions will tell. It’s going to be around 20k more words until my draft is finished. But I’m so proud of getting as far as I have. It has a beginning, middle, and end, lots of plotlines to tie up, and I’ll be writing through December till I’m finished. I think I’m finally going to take a whirl at creative streams on twitch. I’ll be missing all of the lifestreams that happened during November, and think it would be pretty neat to host some virtual write-ins for those who are feeling the same.

It’s either going to be Monday or Tuesday around noon, I’ll keep you posted through social media, and hopefully, It will be a lot of fun! I’ll probably be a little nervous so it would be nice to see some familiar faces there.

Anyways, that’s all for now, I’ll talk to you again soon!

Keep telling your stories, and whether you hit 50k or not this month, treat yourself to a fancy new notebook, cupcake, or latte. You earned it!

NaNoWriMo Time!

Hey All!
I’m a few days late, but it’s better than never! I’m excited (and nervous) to be jumping into NaNoWriMo this month. Woo!! My Young Adult novel Confidence: The Diary of an Invisible Girl was a product of NaNoWriMo 2013. Personally, I think a great example of how an idea even one that seems really silly at first, can turn into something you’re really proud of if you see it through. 🙂 I almost gave up, rerwrote, and just walked away from that story, and I’m so glad I didn’t. I’m glad Barbara Jenkins and her friends came to life through the words I wrote during that rapid pace month, and I want to do it again…With, yet another silly idea.

I think the silly kind might be my favorite.

This year, my jumping off point is, “Banished  from magic school after a botched school prank where Darla Dodsworth literally almost rose hell. The teen witch and her accomplishes make their way in the mortal realm as vigilantes.” Goofy right?! I can’t wait to see what happens with it, discover the characters, and get to write some kick-buns action sequences. Maybe even a WIZARD BATTLE

Ready to write 50,000 words in a month with me? Sign up, start your novel and feel free to challenge me to a sprint or word count duel! I’m looking forward to the burst of creativity, the flavored lattes with double shots of espresso, and all of us WriMos cheering each other on this month.

xoxo Paige

P.S In the spirt of NaNoWriMo I did not edit this blogpost. Maybe I’ll get around to it in December ;p

My week in pictures 23-30th

Hey Friends!
I’m going to try to get back in the swing of these “My week in pictures” posts. They’re such fun visual diaries for me, and with all the excitement that’s been going on right now, with the book release and GeekyCon prep starting next week, Now seems like the perfect time to jump back in!
 Let’s start with Sunday
Relaxing in the sun with an Ollybird after a bike ride to the farmers market. It was the first time we tried out his cute new bike trailer, and I am happy to report that he loved it! Not to mention he looked awfully cute cruising along. ❤
Working on Pumpkin Spiced pages and enjoying a Hazelnut latte. I always know it’s going to be an awesome day when I get my coffee order served up in a peanuts Christmas mug! Especially when It’s out of season.

On Thursday Matt discovered that Shake Shack is NOT, I repeat not a place that sells healthy smoothies. Luckily he wasn’t too disappointed by the chocolate-peanut butter milkshake goodness and fries we ordered instead.

Selfies with Erin at Creative Mornings Orlando. The speaker we listened to was Tyler Petresky from Limbitless he not only talked about the non-profit (which makes AWESOME 3D printed protestic arms for kids) But also inspired with a message of “If you don’t know  how to do something, that’s okay, you can always learn!” I think it’s safe to say we all left feeling inspired, and happy to see such an awesome project making a difference.

Conversations and awesome sound-enhancing seats. Catalyst is a pretty cool space!
My favorite part of the weekend, Snoozy-Saturday’s with Oliver. ❤
And last, but not least the final proof for Confidence came in the mail and I’m over the moon! Here it is right on the end (and putting the beta-designs to shame) I’ll have three of the new copies going out in the mail to the Goodreads Giveaway winners bright and early on Monday. 🙂 I can’t wait! On a related note, the pre-orders just went live on kindle this morning! Eeep! If you’re a e-book lover click here to pre-order your copy of the book. The release is next month on 6/9/2015 and coming up so fast!
I’ll keep you posted, and be back with another week in pictures next Sunday ❤

Final cover art + Goodreads giveaway!

Hey Guys!
Exciting news today 🙂 After a ton of brainstorming, and taking a bunch of really valuable feedback into consideration. My husband Matt worked up this brand new book cover, and I absolutely love it! It just finally feels ‘right’ to me. and I couldn’t be happier. 🙂

From the back cover,

Comic-book-obsessed Barbara Jenkins’ idea of an exciting night consists mostly of fan fiction and frozen pizza-that is, until one fated day during the start of the school year when she literally crashes into the queen of the AV Club. Barbara soon begins to explore life outside her comfort zone as she is thrust head first into a new world of costumes, conventions, and crushes, as well as a HUGE secret

As well as finalizing the cover, I’m also running a giveaway over on Goodreads this week! I’ll be giving away three signed copies of the book. So If you’d like a chance to enter, check out the widget down below, and be sure to share it with your friends. 🙂

The book release date is 6-9-15 which seems so close, yet so far away. I can’t wait!!

Good luck on the giveaway and thank you all so much for your support. These past few months leading up to the release have been so fun, hecktic and exciting. I can’t believe we’re almost there, and I’m pleased as punch to have you along for this journey!

Chat with you soon,
 xo Paige

Things are happening! Books Covers & Flashbacks

Well Howdy Everyone!
How are you? I feel like it’s been forever since I posted on here, and I’d really like that to change. As you can see, I’ve spent a little bit of time cleaning and pretty-ing up the layout of the blog, and I’m really loving it! Hopefully it motivates me to write on here a little more. There’s something nice about just sitting in front of the computer, and letting all my thoughts flow into a blog post, it’s like having a diary again. AND speaking of diaries! I wrote a book!!

Well, technically I wrote it in 2013 during NaNoWriMo 50,000 words in a month. After all this time, the kinks have been worked out, I hired an AMAZING editor Jen, to smooth over the grammar, formatting and do all those important professional things, that I’m admittedly awful at. Both her, and my husband Matt have had such enthusiasm and energy that’s giving me so much life! Writing a book, and then being vulnerable, sharing it with trusted people at first, and then now, I’m getting ready to share it with the whole world. It’s scary, exciting, and more than 50% of the time, when I think about it I feel like I might throw up. But despite the pancakes flipping in my stomach, I can’t wait. And to be honest, I’m already starting to think about book two…

So, it’s been written, edited and formatted, then after late nights of brainstorming we found the perfect title “Confidence -The Diary of an invisible girl” I love it. Here’s the back cover blerb

Comic-book-obsessed Barbara Jenkins’ idea of an exciting night consists mostly of fan fiction and frozen pizza-that is, until one fated day during the start of the school year when she literally crashes into the queen of the AV Club. Barbara soon begins to explore life outside her comfort zone as she is thrust head first into a new world of costumes, conventions, and crushes, as well as a HUGE secret…”

The last step we’re on? Picking a cover! It has been a roller coaster, let me tell you! But we have it narrowed down to two concepts, that I think are really strong. (keep in mind, these are not final art, just mockups)

Right?! What to choose? I feel like no matter which way we go, I’m already such a fan of these, it’s going to be perfect. But I would LOVE to hear your thoughts. Which one of these covers catches your eye? Which one makes you want to flip to the back cover, and read more? Leave your thoughts down below, or send me an e-mail.  (I’m also looking for early-birdie readers to give access to the book)
You know, It’s crazy to think back to NaNoWriMo 2013, It’s hard to believe that crazy writing marathon of a month, lead me to this story that I really believe in, and am so proud of. I can’t wait to share it with you! soooooooo excited! rsakignskgnrkj;nralmg!
I think I’m going to end this post with a flashback, the cool thing about vlogging is I actually documented my first week of writing, watch me freak out, procrastinate, and drink a lot of coffee down below.
One thing is for sure, I know what I’m going to be doing this coming November ❤ And I'm going to peer-pressure you all to join me! WRITE ALL THE THINGS

NaNoWriMo Week #2

I haven’t written in three days.

I’m starting to look at my story, and my characters, and think to myself “What’s the point?” I without fail, always get like this about 20,000 words into a novel. And you know what? I never finish. I stop writing. Push it to the backburner, and forget the thoughts, images, and dialog, I had been flooded with inspiration for only days before.

It ends tonight.

As soon as the clock strikes 9:45, I am opening my google doc and forcing myself to write at least 500 words. No. I’m doing it as soon as I finish this blog post. I am sick and tired of writers block getting the best of me.

If you’re reading this, and feeling the same way about your story, let’s try to kick writers block to the curb this week. As it says on the NaNoWriMo website, “The world needs your story”

Edit: Hah, just kidding.  I almost gave up, I forgot to post this, opened up my story, and just wanted to quit. After talking it through, I decided to go back to the beginning, and re-read it from the top as an attempt to get re-inspired. And you know what? It worked! I ended up adding so much about the characters, and it’s the small scenes and interactions that make me get hooked on writing a story again.

Last night was a prime example of the rollercoaster ride that NaNoWriMo is.
But i have a strong feeling, it’s all going to be worth it. 🙂

It’s still a rough draft, but here’s a little bit of the first chapter (It’s written in diary format)

”   How do these things normally start off anyways? I guess i’ll introduce myself to you faceless booklet of paper.  I’m Barbara Jenkins. My mom named me after the first batgirl, Barbara Gordon. How cool is that right?! But I don’t  fight crime or drive a sweet motorcycle. I’m just a 10th grader. I do kind of have one superpower though, I’m invisible. Well, not really. . But it would be really awesome if i was right? I’d sneak into the comic shop, and read all the new releases in the back, before they hit the shelves. I’d have all the knowledge and the power. I would be so invincible! But instead of using my powers for evil, and starting a blog filled with spoilers, I’d use my powers for good, starting with winning the heart of that the dreamboat who works behind the counter. He’d practically throw himself at me and my superior comic book knowledge. “

-The Convention Queen

Track my progress, and add me as a writing buddy here.
I’m about to brew some tea and get writing again!
Take that writers block!

Getting into good habits.

Hey Cutiepies
For the first time ever, I’m going to do Nanowrimo
This November. And no, Nanowrimo isn’t some rare
and unusual pokemon. It’s National writing month.
Observe two wild Nanowrimo laughing in it’s natural habitat.

To get myself into the habit, I’ve been trying to write
everyday. Whether it’s something for my comic, a blogpost,
or random ideas, Writing SOMETHING no matter how big or small
I might even start a flowchart/brainstorm board for the novel
to help me figure of what idea I want to roll with.
The last time I finished a story, It was “A Pumpkin Spiced Christmas”
which was short and sweet. 30 pages and 4800ish words
Which was totally fine by mefor a short story.
But, it was also made up from characters I’d already built and established.
Starting something completely new, Writing a novel.
Creating a world and the people who live in it.
People that make the story matter, is going to be quite the
challenge. But, I’m up for it. 🙂
I’ve always been the kind of person who has the beginning and end
of a story. but gives up somewhere in the middle.
I’ve made the resolve to change that. ❤
Anyone else planning on participating?
